Activist Selly Oak

Activist Selly Oak is an exciting new project that is exploring the rich history of activism within the Selly Oak area of Birmingham.

Based in the School of History & Cultures at the University of Birmingham, the project is engaging with local and student communities to uncover histories of activism that took place in Selly Oak and around the University campus during the twentieth century. The area has a diverse history of charitable, voluntary and political activism, including community action, peace campaigns, and campaigning by political parties of every ideological hue.

Those involved in the project hope it will bring together student and non-student residents through the discovery of these fascinating histories, and also help foster new conversations that consider our place within a local community, and the wider world, through narratives of local activism.
